People come out here for Sunday lunch for much the same reason: to leave the city behind, sit down properly and stop watching the clock. You eat surrounded by the vineyards and hills of Montefalcione, fifteen minutes from Avellino, in a dining room that warms up in winter and gardens that open onto the view in summer.

We're in Montefalcione, Contrada Carrani, in the heart of the province of Avellino: fifteen minutes from the town, among the Fiano and Greco vineyards, with parking outside and the hills all around. It's the countryside people look for when they want to eat out of town without driving for hours.
From Naples or Salerno it's a little over an hour: a Sunday in Irpinia fits comfortably into a single day, between lunch, a walk and perhaps a winery.
